What good is a strategy if no one uses it?
For your strategy plan to work, it must be:
- Meaningful
- Intuitive
- Concise
- Logical
- Communicated
One popular technique for communicating strategy is "the Pyramid of Purpose." This can be represented by the following pyramid which answers these questions:
- "why" - refers to your organization's mission, values, and vision;
(Why are we doing what we are doing?)
- "what" - covers objectives and goals;
(What do we need to do to fulfill our intended purpose?)
- "how" - refers to the actions needed to realize these goals; and
(How exactly are we going to do what needs to be done?)
- "who" - refers to the people, systems and tools which deliver these.
(Who/what is going to make sure it's done?)
